Fireflies

This painting started without a plan, as usual. Just put some paint down and follow the trail. And it led me here, to a place that reminds me of another trail I accidentally fell upon in when living in Japan. It was one of the most magical accidental happenings. I went to the Taro Okamoto Museum of Art one day in Kawasaki. Such an interesting place, I totally recommend it. It was almost Cherry blossom season, so I went out hunting for them in the park the Art Gallery sat in the middle of. I walked down into a secluded valley that had a few old gnarled trees with pink plum blossoms on them instead. They usually arrive a bit earlier than the white cherry blossoms and actually I like them better. Such a beautiful pink. The valley had a grove of tall thick bamboo surrounding it that made such an amazing sound as they swayed in the wind. I just sat for a while soaking in the beauty of the situation I had stumbled across. The green of the grass, the sound of the bamboo gently clunking in the wind, with accents of delicate pink plum blossoms . But as it started to get dark, I realised that there were fireflies as well. My eyeballs and heart almost burst! So much beauty in one location.
