Swamp Glitter

I grew up in a swamp in Gippsland, known as Ku-wirup (blackfish swimming) by the Bunarong people. A wetland , I was once told, that rivalled Kakadu but was drained between 1889 and 1893 for agriculture. I have been to Kakadu and it is indeed astounding. So much life in a 'swamp'. I would have loved to have seen it as it used to be. I would have love to have seen all the places before we trashed the joint. It was so well taken care of by the Traditional owners of this land. Wetlands would have been seen as sparkling givers of life rather than something to be drained. Now it's famous for asparagus, it's black rich soil like chocolate. But even that is being concreted over for housing. Having looked at the predicted sea level rise maps, I'm not sure that is such a good idea. In a not too distant future the swamp glitter may be back
